What's included in a water heater install
A water heater install sounds simple until it isn't. We handle the full job from start to finish: safely draining and removing the old unit, prepping the space, sizing the new unit to match your household demand, and connecting all gas, water, and venting properly.
Most of the homes we work on are older Essex County builds where the surrounding plumbing was not designed with today's codes or efficiency standards in mind. That means we sometimes need to update the supply lines, the expansion tank, the venting, or the shutoff valves to bring everything to current code. We do not skip those steps just because the old unit was working without them.
Every install ends with a leak check, a temperature and pressure test, and a clean walk-around of the work area. We haul away the old unit and any packaging so you do not have to deal with it.
A typical install includes:
- Removal and disposal of the old water heater
- Properly sized new tank (40, 50, 75 gallon and up)
- Updated expansion tank if required by code
- New shutoff valves and supply line connections
- Gas line work and venting per NJ code
- Drain pan and overflow protection where applicable
- Final pressure test, leak check, and operation walkthrough
Tank vs. tankless — which is right for your home?
Most of the homes we serve in Montclair, Verona, and the Caldwells run on traditional tank water heaters and that is often the right choice. Tanks are simpler, less expensive up front, and easier to service. They work well for households that have predictable hot water needs.
Tankless water heaters make more sense in some situations — homes with limited utility space, additions where running new venting is involved, or households that have outgrown the recovery time of a tank. We are happy to walk through both options when we come out for the estimate. If you are leaning tankless, see our dedicated tankless water heater service page.
Why homeowners hire CJ Giuliano
We have been doing plumbing in northern New Jersey since 1988, and we run this shop the same way we did our first jobs: show up on time, explain the work, do it right, clean up, and stand behind it. Charlie personally oversees every install.
Our two New Jersey licenses — master plumbing #36BI00984200 and HVACR #19HC00945900 — mean we can handle the gas, water, and venting work on a water heater swap without subbing it out. One crew, one point of accountability.
